Career Treks

Our Career Treks take students into the heart of industries, exposing them to real-world careers. Through Career Treks, students have the opportunity to travel to explore and gain insight into their career fields of interest. These unique, immersive experiences provide a behind the scenes look for students to engage with an organization, learn about various career paths, meet with Notre Dame alumni, and make professional connections.

Learn about past career treks and the experiences of students who participated in them below. In collaboration with MBA Student Clubs, Career Development offers several different types of opportunities for exploration through day treks and semester break treks.

Trek Locations:

Wall Street Trek: Finance

The Wall Street Trek is a 2-3-day event where students travel to New York to visit with Notre Dame alumni at their respective Wall Street firms, primarily investment banks. This trek is focused on exposure and networking.  The firm representatives get a chance to meet, in person, the students that they have been speaking with via phone or virtually over the previous weeks of the recruiting period.  This gives students another opportunity to make a good impression in hopes of being invited to a “Super Day” of final interviews.  It also gives students an opportunity to network with firm representatives that they may have not previously met.

Each day involves visiting host firms where alumni provide presentations on their firms, answer questions, and allow time for networking.  Over the last several years the following firms hosted visits: Lincoln International, Barclays, Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Goldman Sachs, Deutsche Bank, RBC, and Citigroup.  If time permits, a visit to the New York Stock Exchange, and the 9/11 Museum & Memorial are included.

Bay Area Trek: Technology

During the fall semester, Technology Club arranges a Silicon Valley week-long trip focused on educational learning and networking opportunities for students interested in the technology industry. The trip is generally structured to visit several technology companies each day throughout the week accompanied by informal networking gatherings with local technology alumni.

Chicago Trek: Consulting

Typically in the Fall and Spring semesters, Consulting Club arranges a Chicago day-trip focused on education and networking. The trip is generally structured to visit several consulting firms during the day followed by an informal networking gathering afterwards with local consultant alumni.

Chicago Trek: Marketing

The Marketing Club usually arranges a day-trip to Chicago during the fall semester, targeting firms that do not come on-campus to recruit. This provides students with access to employers that they may otherwise not have access to. Students will engage with employees working in various positions within marketing departments. This trek is designed to connect students with employees from leading companies who have found success in this function. The 2021 list of participating companies will be released in the fall.

*Note: Students are responsible for all expenses during the trip, including travel, lodging, and meals. Occasionally, firms will provide refreshments during the visits.
